The following is a précis of the Toronto Police Services Domestic Violence webpage,
“Toronto Police Chief William Blair believes that the Toronto Police Service must continue working closely with community partners to ensure that victims of domestic violence and their children get the help and support they need to leave abusive relationships and rebuild their lives.
The Toronto Police Service has made “Focusing on Violence Against Women" a service priority for 2009-2011”. Sgt. Deb Vittie, the Toronto Police Service Domestic Violence Coordinator attached to the Community Mobilization Unit advises, “We ask victims of domestic violence and their children to make huge life changes at a time when they are least able to. Victims need support and referrals to other community assistance providers to help them do this. Accordingly, we have updated our resource pamphlet for domestic violence victims."
